Almost every year, Apple shows off its new iPhones at a big event in September. This year, there are likely to be new Apple Watch models, and it looks like the Apple Watch Ultra will have a beautiful new look.
We expect to hear about the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max this fall unless the world turns upside down. The only question is when. I’ve said here when I think the new phones will be announced and when they’ll be available to buy.
But a new study says that this might change in a small way. Filipe Espósito at 9to5Mac says that the publication has heard from “multiple sources” that mobile carriers have been telling their workers not to take the day off on September 13 “due to a major smartphone announcement.” Even though Apple isn’t mentioned by name, it’s easy to figure out: a competitor would be crazy to try to launch a phone at a time of year when everyone will be talking about Apple. Aside from that, no other brand’s new models are expected at this time of year.
As you’ll see in my other post, I’ve been saying that the reveal would happen either on September 6 or September 12. I hoped it would be the first one, but I knew that things were still changing and no choice had been made. So, this is a different date.
Maybe the phone companies think that the day after the announcement will be busier than the day of the news.
How about this instead? Apple usually lets people pre-order its goods the Friday after it shows them off. But since the announcement is happening in the second of the most likely weeks, Apple might break with customs and start taking pre-orders on September 13 instead. If the shippers know this, they can expect to be very busy on that day.
Of course, I know it’s possible that I was just wrong, and Tim Cook will take the stage at the Steve Jobs Theater on September 13 at 10 a.m. Pacific to welcome people to the address.
I think the story from 9to5Mac is enough to confirm at least the week of the announcement. In either case, I think the iPhone 15 will be in the shops on September 22. There are rumours that one or more of the four phones will be delayed like the iPhone 14 Plus was last year, but at least some of them will be on sale then. More news as it comes out.
