OpenAI Launches Specialized ChatGPT Version for Business Needs

OpenAI announced on Monday the launch of “ChatGPT Enterprise,” a specialized version of its popular ChatGPT technology aimed at the business sector. The new service will be available for purchase starting Monday and aims to offer robust security and privacy features along with an advanced version of the ChatGPT tool for companies wanting to leverage generative AI technology.

The company’s blog post emphasized that AI has the potential to enhance various facets of work life, making teams more creative and efficient. ChatGPT Enterprise aims to serve as an AI work assistant that can handle various tasks, is tailored to organizational needs, and safeguards corporate data.

Initial clients of this enterprise-focused service include financial tech company Block, beauty industry leader Estee Lauder Companies, and consulting firm PwC. OpenAI revealed that its ChatGPT app has already been used by employees from over 80% of Fortune 500 companies since its public release last year, based on an analysis of corporate email-associated accounts.

Before the introduction of ChatGPT Enterprise, several major corporations like JPMorgan Chase had imposed temporary limits on the use of ChatGPT in the workplace due to concerns about privacy and security. The enterprise version aims to alleviate these worries by not using business data or conversations for training its models.

While OpenAI did not disclose the pricing structure for ChatGPT Enterprise, it encouraged interested businesses to reach out to its sales department for more information. The company said it is keen on gathering customer feedback to continuously improve the enterprise service.

The announcement comes after Microsoft, which has invested billions in OpenAI, released a business-centric version of its AI-powered Bing Chat tool in July. Named “Bing Chat Enterprise,” it similarly promises to protect user data from being used in AI training. How these two new enterprise AI tools will compete with each other remains to be seen.
